Creating Safe Shelter Spaces for LGBTQ+ Survivors

Wednesday, October 16th | 11:00AM - 12:30PM CST

This training, provided by the National LGBTQ Institute on Intimate Partner Violence, looks at specific barriers faced by LGBTQ+ survivors when attempting to access safety and shelter and provides tools for creating more inclusive shelter spaces, intakes, and data collection processes. Participants will explore how they can adjust practices in their workplaces to be more inclusive of LGBTQ+ survivors, run through inclusive intake exercises, and practice responding to anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment from staff and other survivors accessing services.

The National LGBTQ Institute on Intimate Partner Violence was created to significantly enhance the safety, support, and health of LGBTQ survivors throughout the United States. The Institute offers state-of-the-art training and technical assistance that significantly expands the capacity of agencies to provide culturally relevant, survivor-centered LGBTQ violence intervention and prevention services. You can reach out to the Institute at info@lgbtqipvinstitute.org for more information.
